<p>My family has run a business for four generations. Revenues are extremely reliable, and there is no competition in our operational area. We are, however, geographically constrained and internal growth is minimal. Support costs (billing, collecting, accounting) are substantial. Historically, we've done this in-house, which has kept two or three people employed (out of 10). Our systems are now outdated, requiring a substantial IT investment (>$30K in hardware and software). Outsourcing has been suggested as an alternative. How, exactly, should we evaluate these two options?</p>
